I used to brag about the ability of the "System Restore" in System Tools of Windows ME, until a neigbhor of mine, ran into a problem when her fiance tried to load a Windows 95 game cd on her system, and totally crashed it. She called me up, I walked her through booting up the system with a Start Up diskette, but, it would not let her access the System Restore program. There any way to do that from the Start up diskette in Windows ME?

Oops! I've should have included in the message, that, she could not boot up into Safe Mode, only would let her boot to "a" prompt from the start up floppy diskette.

You can try your boot disk , if it dos'nt work , here are some sites for boot disks .

Got problems and don't want to reinstall...
Don't want to lose any of your settings or software? There's a command line option that'll get you back on your feet in no time. Boot up your PC with a Windows 95 boot disk, pop in your Windows 95 CD, and once
you're at the command prompt, type your CD-ROM drive letter immediately followed by a colon. So, if your CD was set to "D" you'd enter D: and then hit ENTER. At this point, type the following command: SETUP /pf.
This switch will restore all of Windows critical files to their factory state, and in 99 % of situations doing this will fix whatever problems you were having in Windows 95.

Thanks for the tips and links..... I wish I would have known about that switch for Windows 95 back in those days. Looks like it is possible to get to System Restore, with a few adjustments.......I can't wait to test.thanks again http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif

Well maybe back in the win98 days. Win95 doesn't create backups like 98 and above does http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif
Hey guys,
Continuing on this subject - My HD crashed last night, sounds like the same problems listed here. I can't get into Windows, not even to Safe Mode, but I can get to a C: prompt and look around, so I know all my data is intact. Gonna try the restore routine suggested here, but one more question.
I've been anticipating getting a new HD anyway, and I'll probably format it with 2000. If I use it as my new boot drive, can I put the old drive in as a slave and access it just for the sake of copying/saving the old data? I'd take the old drive out once I got everything I need off of it.
