Hi guys,

I have the strangest problem. Both my CDROM and CD-R stopped working. They still work fine in DOS and they play Audio CDs in Windows but when I pop in a Data CD and try to access it either with the CDROM or CDR the computer reboots. Whaz up with that. I tried the CDROMs on my other WinMe box and they work fine... I pretty much sad there all day long yesterday and tried to get it working. Switching channles, deleting them from the System, reinstalling Windows, bla bla bla. I think it has to do with the mobo. I have a VIA Apollo Pro A+ 133 Mhz. I wanted to install the original VIA drivers but I got a registry error in WinMe. The WinME drivers for that board are newer anyways. Everything works perfect except for the CDROMs. Does anybody have an idea ?

a long shot, but try going into the BIOS setting and running through the IDE drive detection tab. I lost my CDROMs in a similar manner after installing a second hard drive.
It should run through IDE1 Master/IDE1 Slave/IDE2 Master/IDE2 Slave. Just answer "Y" if you are happy with what it's showing you. If the drives aren't showing up here, then it could be something more than a detection problem.

what kinda software are you using to write CD? I use to run Adaptec Easy writer 2.0 and have the same problem you have. i think the problem is in the software. I thing when you install Adaptec Easy cdwriter you have the Adaptec cdwriter install and Adaptec cd dector or something like that. Either do no install cd dector or just disable it. It should work.
Now i am run Adaptec 4.0 deluxe only using many install and it work fine on both 9x/2000.
