I have seen and experienced numerous problems with Norton's utilities.
People (who like me spent $$ on these utilities) are reluctant to believe that Norton's utilities are not really necessary. I have heard many people praise Norton's disk tools but W98 if used properly will optimize your disk access too.
About the only thing that seems to be relatively trouble free is NAV (Norton's antivirus), but if you ask me it's scans are way too slow.

Hey there Quidne, I use Norton Utils and they work much better for me than do the tools that come with Win95 or Win98. In my opinion, you didn't waste your money.
You'll be happier with them if you only load and use what you need from the package, and even then run them only when they need to be run. Letting them run automatically is usually where some things might go wrong.
Good luck with your computer.

I don't know but I have allowed Norton WinDoctor to go ahead and automatically fix the problems it finds and not suffered any know consequences. My guess is that the "Problems" norton finds following a clean W98 install are "much to do about nothing"
