Putting together a system for a friend. At pricewatch Mitsumi cdrw 4x4x24 for $123. I know you get what you pay for but are they any good? The user won't really use it that much. Can't beat the price.

hey

I have myself a Mitsumi 4802TE CDRW... it's a 4x/2x/8x ... kind of the ancestor of the one you're talking about...

I had it for over a year now. Never had problems related to the drive itself! I do burn 4-5 CDs a week and it gets the job done! 4X is not that slow... I mean, I can wait 18 minutes for a CD to burn... I'm not in a hurry that much!

So, yeah, go ahead and get it! It's a great cheap burner!

Get Nero 5.0 too... it rules! http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/smile.gif

I have a 4802TE, which is only 2x2x4,(I think)and it has performed faultlessly ( I am not a heavy user).

Freinds have had problems with more expensive models, so you can be lucky or unlucky however much you spend.

If it is cheap and for low usage, I would go for it.

One word of warning, my model requires to be master on the secondary ide port (assuming that you have c drive on master primary), that caused a few headaches !!

I had the Mitsumi 4802TE CDRW and I liked it so much I went and got a CR 4804TE (4x4x24) and it works perfect everytime so I have to recommend you go ahead and get it. They also update the firmware regularly http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/smile.gif.

Oh...I don't know much about your new burner,(sorry) but good luck with it.

I also have a Mitsumi 4x2x8 and it works well. I have had the odd problem, but nothing related directly to the drive. Usually just lousy blanks...

We have those exact cdrw's at work.

Besides from the fact that HP doesn't supply decent software to us, the drives have never caused any problems over here.

I suggest you take it, cause they are fine cdrw's to have.

I posted a message about a good deal on a Plextor 8/4/32 in deals and steals a few weeks ago. You can get it for $165 with the coupon mentioned (coupon expires today though, and the free shipping seems to be on random days...) I ordered one a couple days ago for myself http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/smile.gif All of the reviews for this drive have been glowing, and it is a very nice price. http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/smile.gif
