I'm planning to install linux on a partition on my computer...can someone give me step by step instructions (that I could understand)in helping me with how I create a partition and install Mandrake Linux? (last time I screwed up my comp)
Also, which GUI is better? KDE or GNOME?
And does anyone know where to find a linux app that will let me run DVDs through my DVD ROM?

THANKS A BUNCH....(sorry for bombing you guys with too many questions)

1) For step by step instructions goto: http://www.mandrakeuser.org
2) For partitioning use partition magic and make 2 partitions, one an EXT2 partition, this will be where linux will be installed. Another a Linux Swap partition, this will be the linux swap drive. Mandrake will automatically do the rest.
3) As for KDE or GNOME, neither is really any better than the other. It's ALL bout personal choice... new users tend to really like Gnome.
3) As for a DVD program, goto freshmeat.net (http://freshmeat.net) They have just about every linux program ever made...
