Ok, Have have backed up my registry (Like the day after I installed Win2k) Now its been about a week. When I start Windows I get an error: currupted or unreadable or unwritable registry file. C:\winnt\system32\config\software So I tried restarting about 5 times, same error. So through the repair concil I restored my software file with the one in my repair folder. I did rename my original .bak So now I can get into windows but all my programs that I have installed in the last week, new Drivers ect. are not working. So is there anyway I can fix my original file? Is there anything I can do besides reinstalling Win2K and all my programs? Or do I just need to reinstall the programs over themselves? Thanks to anyone who helps.

Have you tried running the programs? Some proggys will rewrite some or all of their reg info when you run 'em. Otherwise, try your above quote.

When I have had this happen to me in the past I have just installed the programs right over themselves and it seemed to work fine. the drivers will definetly need to be re-installed too.

Just reinstall the programs over themselves. You shouldn't have to reinstall windows. The drivers will need to be reloaded again. In the future you might want to start backing up your registry every time you add something new to your system, hardware or software.
