my 44k connect dropos to 40k?

Ive been connecting at 44000 for the last 2 years....On bad days I would get 42000 (and have shoddy serveice), ever since I got my new modem. All of a sudden, I noticed my connection go from 44000 to 40000. Ive tryed 2 ISP's and also switched ISA slots for my SupraExpress. I didnt do anyhting new to tha comp!! Im guessing one of 3 thing happened.
1) Phonelines somehow lost quality over night.
2) Modem got semifried.
3) Somehow both ISP's (Earthlink and NetZero) are Busy at the same time
Anyone have any sugessions? please respond

Have had that happen before w. my SupraExpress 56iSP. Has lasted a few days, then gone back to 44000 with no change on my part. Don't know why, also don't know why can't get any better than 44 when my kid's machine, which has a WinModem, (also Kflex), gets 53 on same phone line, same ISP - It's even in the same room!

Think these are just quirks of Diamond modems. A friend gets better connect speeds with a cheapie generic - BUT - mine works every time, his is constant challenge to keep going!

its not about the connection, its the throughput, i get 28.8 connections on my 56K and when i goto a friends house and get 40k, its even slower
