This is weird. Today I cannot hit many of the major internet sites, like Yahoo, google, sportingnews.com, anandtech, snap, or even microsoft. In fact, this is about the only site I can get to. I switched out modems, reinstalled my comm software, tried both freewwweb and worldspy, tried everything and still no luck. When I try to ping many of these sites, I get the ttl as "expired in transit". Any ideas?

It may be a temporary problem with your ISP accessing different nodes to get to different sites. Wait a bit and see what happens. If not, come back. http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/smile.gif

Hi wyvrn
Stupid question..(?) Did you contact your ISP and ask if they were having problems?

Were there any sites you could get? I know that with my ISP, it occasionally loses it's main connection to the Internet, leaving only it's own homepage accessible, but anything outside in the Internet itself isn't accessible. Maybe that's all that happened.

Ths ISP's I am using are freewwweb and worldspy, but I cannot get to their homepages to look up tech support. I did a tracert to yahoo and see something I have never seen before.
Tracing route to www.yahoo.akadns.net (http://www.yahoo.akadns.net) [216.32.74.53]
over a maximum of 30 hops:
1 138 ms 138 ms 140 ms tnt-2-e0.dfw.smartworld.net [216.70.100.252]
2 173 ms 130 ms 145 ms gw-01.dfw.smartworld.net [216.70.100.254]
3 227 ms 135 ms 145 ms core-01-s3-0.hou.smartworld.net [216.70.94.125]
4 272 ms 161 ms 155 ms core-01-s1-1.chi.smartworld.net [216.70.94.110]
5 159 ms 161 ms 192 ms core-01-s1-1.hou.smartworld.net [216.70.94.109]
6 280 ms 212 ms 217 ms core-01-s1-1.chi.smartworld.net [216.70.94.110]
7 202 ms
Why is the ping bouncing back and forth between the hou.smartworld.net server and chi.smartworld server? And why the heck can I get Sysopt, but NOTHING else. Weird things man.
Oh well, I guess you all will have to put up with me more than normal http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/smile.gif

Hey that was happening to me today too, so I wouldn't freak just yet.

I had same problem yesterday. I am using a different ISP so it may be something else somewhere along the paths.

Well it stuck with me for more than 48hours, so freewwweb is out the window. I am paying 15 bucks for 56k this month, then I find out whether I can get DSL through GTE. Crossing my fingers...
