Here's my situation. I sent a money order to a gentleman in the US for some R/C equiptment, and after about a month now nothing has arrived, and I have not heard from him in about three weeks. I have been unable to find a phone number, so all I have so far is his name, address, and phone number. I did however find an ICQ number with the same first and last name, and an almost identical e-mail address. Here's where I'm asking for help. I'd like to add this ICQ number to my list without him being aware of it, just to see if he ever comes online. If not, then there's a chance that he has been away for a couple of weeks. If he does come online then he has no excuse for not answering my e-mails. I know there is a little ICQ add-on for this type of thing, but am unable to find it. If anyone could either e-mail me the program or a link to where I might find it, I would greatly appreciate it. Since this type of thing isn't completely legitimate I'd request that no links be made in this thread. If this is still considered inappropriate considering the circumstances then I'd be more than happy to delete my request. Thank you.

I believe being able to add someone to your list without their permission, is a hacking technique which is illegal.

Mntsnow, thanks for the offer. Depending on how things go I might take you up on that. I'll let you know.

Brandon, that's what I meant by "isn't completely legitimate" and why I asked that no links be posted on this thread and why I offered to edit my request if this post is deemed inappropriate.

I belive the new ICQ 2000 has made it so you can not do that. There were hacks available to do this for previous releases (ICQ98 and 99a).
However, you may be able to watch thie ICQ page to see if he checked the option "Make my precense availble online".
Also, if you know his name and address, you may be able to goto a site like www.555-1212.com (http://www.555-1212.com) . They have many ways of locating pwoples information. You can also do a reverse lookup. Say, if you have a phone number but you don't know who it belongs to, you can look it up! (I have found, however, that not all phone numbers are in their index--yet).
hope this helps,
Paul

Thank you gentlemen, but another sysopt member set me a link to a program that seemed to work for 99a (I see no need to upgrade yet.) I've tried using a couple of reverse look-up sites for a phone number but have come up empty handed each time. All I have been able to stumble across is this ICQ number. Thanks again guys, if this guy comes online he has some explaining to do.
