I was trying to replace a network card in a WinME computer today and I was having a really hard time getting the new card to work. I figured that maybe the drivers for the old card needed to be removed while in safe mode. The problem was... I had no clue how to get into safe mode in WinME! The shutdown screen doesn't even show that option. Also, hitting F5 didn't seem to be working. Did Microshaft remove safe mode from WinME?!?!?

Press f8 just about when it says starting windows millennium.
It prompts for the bootup menu, this isn't of course the case if you have disabled the bootup keys.

For future reference:
I believe you can use msconfig>general tab and check the box marked"show boot menu at startup"and you can easily select any boot option.
Also, you can edit msdos.sys by going to bootmenu=0 and changing it to bootmenu=1.Save and you get the same result.

Thanks for the help guys. I ended up just leaving the old network card in there. But I'm sure this will come in handy in the future.
