you have a Panasonic and no it is not UDMA compatable.
Most times with dma checked under the cdrom, you will have errors reading your dma hard drive.
someones been pulling your chain.
Unless the drive is specifically udma compatable{it will be listed with the drive on boot}then you will screw up your hard drives access.

You can only run a drive in UDMA mode if:

1. the drive is UDMA compatible
2. the bios supports and is set up for UDMA mode 2
3. if windows is set up for UDMA (box checked)

I don't think many of the 24X CDROM drives were made for UDMA only the 32X+ are

I have a Mat****a 24X CD ROM CR5850 in my Compaq Presario 4824. I have read that checking the "DMA" box under properties boosts CD ROM performance. How do I tell if my CD ROM drive supports this?
