My sister forgot her password to her computer ,its got Win2k on it. Is there a way to crack the password? Otherwise I'm gonna have to format it I guess. She's got all her school stuff on there though and if its possible and not too complicated I think I could do it.Its not on a network.

Try logging on as "Adminstrator" with no password - will get you on if the default Adm user hasn't been changed. As last resort you could slave the drive in another computer and copy her data before you reinstall.

This is her computer from school that she brought home for the summer. If the default Administrator HAS been changed then what? I guess I could try slaving it, Im up to that.
Yep, if it comes to the worst you can always hook it up as slave on another system and copy the files from there. But if this system with the lost password has NTFS partitions, you'd have to connect it to a system that has Win2k installed since Win9x cannot access NTFS...

If the file system is FAT, boot with a Win9X boot disk. Then go to c:\Winnt\system32\config and delete the SAM file. Then when you reboot the Administrator password will be blank. This works whether or not the default administrator account has been renamed.
If the file system is NTFS, then you will either have to install Windows 2000 again on a separate drive or partition; or go to http://www.nttoolbox.com/ and get the "NT Admin Boot Disk" from the Downloads link.
