Hi all,

I recently tried to backup a Win2K hard drive by using "xcopy c:\ d:\ /s /e /h /c /k /r" and copying onto a fat32 hard drive (Win98SE). Now comes the hard part. How do I manually restore this fat32 backup onto an NTFS hard drive (Win2K)? All of the data is still intact, but the settings are ALL gone. Networking, dial-up, apps, etc. Hmmm, I guess NTFS security kinda works, huh? http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif

Please help! I appreciate any and all suggestions, tips, and advice.

You should of backup'd your registry (just a shot in the dark) but then when you are done with the reinstall add the reg file back then your settings should show up again.

One glaring problem I've always found with doing a backup from an NTFS partition (ie: Win2K, NT) to a FAT or FAT32 partition is the file and directory security information doesn't get written to the FATx drive because FAT doesn't support NTFS security.
