Will I do not qualify as a linux newbie I have had a small bit if inexperence installing linux.

I must first say thanks to the 4 or 5 so-called newbies that have held my hand so I could even get linux to surf the net.

After using RH (to post this) I read how much better Drake 8 was. Yes it has a pretty install interface, but it lackes much in hardware support. Not a problem for those newbies. It doesn't even carry support for a SB 32 or isa. But it did have wheel support! :^)

Ingeneral the How-To's are much like the accross the counter auto repair books, when you get to the point you are looking for, you are told to take it to a professional/administrator

It still boiles down to $ What is that box set $70?

Just my pennies, http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif Thanks again for the help http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif

Edit: The sicurte to changing the res. is don't test it.
Now if I could just read these weared letters http://www.sysopt.com/forum/frown.gif

hello,
hopefully i answered the other post okay.

i have been using redhat for years w/o a problems, my redhat 7.1 found all hardware in my system on installation. (sound, usb optical wheel mouse, video, ATA100 controller, cdrw, moniter).

mandrake is (or was) redhat based so i would think it is okay. for someone to say mandrake better than redhat is like saying the blue chevy is better than the red one. I have read reviews on both and they both got high marks.

i'm using mandrake 8, you can download it for free, so why not try it first? if you want to support them by buying the boxed version, that's fine, but since you CAN try it first, why not? Other then the fact i'm a linux idiot, i like it so far and i'm learning pretty fast.
