I remember reading somewhere around here how to copy all the win98 files to the HD, and then install win98 from the HD as opposed to from the CD. Could somebody post the instructions or a link for me?
Thanks.

I forget the name, but it's a directory on the cd that contains lots of .cab files and setup.exe (about 105MB) - boot with a DOS floppy and copy it to a directory on your hard drive. Run smartdrv.exe before doing the copying, else it will take a very long time. How to use xcopy command is at http://www.csulb.edu/~murdock/easydos.html along with explanations of other DOS commands.

All you need to do is boot from a boot disk and enable cdrom support.Change to c:\> prompt.
md windows enter
cd windows enter
md options enter
cd options enter
md cabs enter
cd options enter
c:\windows\options\cabs>copy d:\win98
No need to run smartdrive as this doesn't take long. Also, "d" is whatever your cdrom drive letter is.After cabs are copied, type setup and enter. More joy!

There's a much easier way, since I've been doing it this way since Win95. Boot the system as above with a boot disk and CD support.
C:\MD Win98
Switch to the CD Drive
D:\Copy D:\Win98 C:\Win98
(The D:\Win98 folder will replace the C:\Win98 folder)
C:\CD Win98
C:\Win98\Setup
And your off.
