what happen format

I autodected my harddrive,I partition my
harddrive, I finally tryed to format my hdd
but it does recover allocation twice once at
72$ and then at 94$ then it displays
formatting 1,240.20M /Format terminated
without it asking for disk label(name). So
what is going on. it displays in bios and
in startup screen but never finishes the
format is this drive ok or what? A old JTS
champ hdd. Need low level format program
for the drive or utilities. Thanks.
