I'm a High-school student, and now they have 'Sonicwall' blocking almost everything cool on the web, but this discussion board (of course), and a few other things. What a bunch of losers. I hate to be flaming, but I really don't like this. I can't even check my guitar.com email. Does anyone know a way to get around this Sonicwall firewall ****? Thanks a lot, I'll show these nerd-teachers what's up.

No help from me!!!

You may be a good kid and stay away from the no-no's, but there are too many kids today (and adults) that think everything is okay. I suggest obeying the school and checking your e-mail when you get home.

Showing these "nerd-teachers what's up is the WRONG way to get your point across!

I doubt you'll get much help here on that issue.

The only advice I'll offer is to try using 32 bit decimal addresses instead of host names or typical IP address (in dotted-decimal form).

Here's an example...

24.128.125.14 = 0x18.0x80.0x7D.0x0E = 0x18807D0E = 411073806
24*(8**0) + 128*(8**1) + 125*(8**2) + 14*(8**3) = 24 + 1024 + 8000 + 7168 = 411073806

So use http://411073806 in place of the IP address (in dotted-decimal form) http://24.128.125.14 or the host name http://kramer.ne.mediaone.net/

If you need help with the math, just ask you teacher! http://www.sysopt.com/forum/wink.gif

Rather than try to buck the system, why don't you work it to your advantage.

Lobby your school system admin to setup a proxy server or something like that instead, and make a case to them for the URL's you would like to see allowed.

That way, you get the content you want to see, and they can still block those things they see and unfit for their network.

The teachers have nothing to do with this. Most teachers don't know a thing about computers. Its the networking people that work for your school board you should thank. i should know i work for the school too http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif

by the way you have mail!

You could probably ctrl-alt-delete and shut down the process. In fact, you can look at google.com for wintop.exe, which shows each process like Windows NT does.

Of course if that is breaking some sort of policy, then please ignore this advice all together http://www.sysopt.com/forum/wink.gif
