My favorite is in IE, you just type a name in the address bar, and then hit Ctrl and Enter. It wraps the rest for you.

Any other great time saving keystrokes?

I think it's a pretty appropriate key for a keyboard... but not the image we should keep up on a public forum. http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/wink.gif Thanks. -socalgal

Favorite is F5 for refreshing IE. I also use the space bar to scroll down pages quite a bit.

My 2 favs:

WindowsKey + Break = System Properties
WindowsKey + M = Minimize everything (I do a ton of multitasking at work)

FYI:
F6 in IE will bring you to the Address bar.. very handy when you don't feel like moving your mouse in that little .5 inch space. http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/wink.gif

How do you set a keystroke shortcut for a specific program?

Wormo, you have to create a shortcut for it first. Then right click the shortcut icon, properties, shortcut tab, then type a letter in the Shortcut Key: box. It will in effect make that program's shortcut to be CTRL+ALT+letter.

I have about 10 programs mapped this way. It helps a lot if you have too many windows open and can't see the desktop icons... or you're too lazy to sift through the Start button programs.

Down side is, if you happen to map 2 programs to be the same Ctrl+Alt+letter, then I believe the first mapping will be overwritten. There is no fault tolerance for this... (COME ON M$!)

I guess my favorite or most used is Alt-F4 to close stuff. In Excel I have several favorite keystrokes like CTRL-SHIFT-L.ARROW to highlight a selected row. I also use Recorder to set up Macros which help alot as well.

I have all kinds of favorite keys...because I use Macro Express (http://www.macros.com/)...fun!

But of the boring domestic hotkeys, I guess my favs are:

ctrl+esc - to get to the start menu

And someone mentioned Winkey+M to minimize all windows, but I think a better way to do that is Winkey+D which minimized all windows and if you hit it again it brings them all back.

Another good one is Alt+Tab to switch between Aplications but for program shortcuts I like Dragging the Icon from the start menu to desktop for shortcut then to the task bar But you have to replace it in the start menu again but I have my task bar set up with favorite programs and stuff like calculator media players system properties C drive and CDrom Drive Plus many more anything with a cool looking Icon

Hitting CTRL+ALT+DEL twice. Seems to solve most of windows problems.

I have Ctrl+Alt+W set to fire up Winamp. It's surprisingly handy. http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/smile.gif

x35, if you hold down CTRL when you drag from the start menu it'll copy the shortcut (not move it) thus you won't have to replace it in the menu.

I have to laugh at the expression "keyboard shortcut". Does anyone remember WordStar? I started using it before computers had meeces and I still use it for some work today. All "shortcuts" no mouse. Very efficient, my hands never leave the keyboard. http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/smile.gif

Anyone know of a good site for all of these shortcuts, or care to make a nice list of them?

I do have the following site in my favorites folder, but I'm not sure it documents all of them.
http://support.microsoft.com/support/kb/articles/Q126/4/49.asp

BTW - My favorite is the shift-restart combo for just restarting Windows and not your whole computer.

I liked the first one posted and the winkey+break one of my favorites is alt+left arrow key=BackPage in IE

Good posts!
In netscape I use ctr-n for a new window. And ctrl- m for a new email. I think it works in IE too.
I usually have 5 or more browser windows open.

x35 cool I like that you can even go forward too by hitting the forward arrow http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/smile.gif. Also backspace will take you back a page in IE.
