My motherboard has a built in soundcard, and I just bought a new one (SB live X-gamer). I'm pretty sure I need to disable the onboard sound before the new one will work, but I don't know how. Can anyone give me the the jumper settings to a J-Bond PCI600K/PCI610K motherboard? Or is there any other way to disable the onboard sound? Thanx.

Not sure about the board you have but you should be able to go into your bios to disable.

How old is the board ?

I got the board last summer. I'm running a PIII 450 on it. I tried to get the jumper info from the manufacturer's web page, but they are re-designing it and nothing is there. I'll look around my bios and see if I can find anything.

I deal with a lot of IBM PC's at work that have onboard sound. It is very easy to disable, just go into the BIOS and change it's setting to DISABLED.

My bios doesn't seem to have that setting. Do you think I need to upgrade it?

Mntsnow, you should move this to the technical support section.. i think it'd help this person, than in a general discussion. http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/smile.gif

Just for the record, you can run multiple sound cards in one system just fine, as long as you have enough IRQ's for them. I did this once and I used a short little cable to go from line out on one card to line in on the other. This was back before I got a PCI card, so it was cool to be able to record and play waves at the same time and what not...

Thanks a lot JonmaTifa, that's what I needed to do. I had my new card installed, but it was still using the old one. I didn't know I could just tell windows to use the new one. Problem solved.
