What settings do you use? I use high color (16 bit) screen area 640X480. Some programs require 800X600, but then my icons and fonts look to small.
Is there some other adjustments that I should know about?

what size is your monitor?

I run my 19 inch at 1280 by 1024 and 16 bit color. if you right click and go to properties, and effects, there are some things that will change it slighty. you do things like changing the size of the icons and change the size of the text.

actually, the area to change the font size is under "settings" and "advanced."

you have a 17 running at 640? I would suggest bumping it up a little...I ran at least 800 by 600 back when I had a 15 inch..sometimes 1024 by 768.

I've got a 15" that runs at 800*600. 640*480 is just too big for me.

14.1" notebook screen running at 1024 x 768 (with large fonts).
Does the Colours setting (eg 256 or High Colour) effect performance at all?

You can also change most of the settings under control panel/dispay/appearance
Click the arrow next to "Item" and choose what you want to change. Make a note of the current sizes, in case you want to change back. For 800x600, try bumping the icons up to 32 or 35, I think that will bring them back to the size you were used to.

Idwal,

Find a real nice background and look at it under 256 color and under 32 bit color. Big difference.

You can always change the appearance on how your desktop looks, icon sizes, etc. in display setting(control panel)/appearance. I know people who thinks 800X600 is too 'small'(using a 14-15" monitor). but when using 640x480, you only view less the size.
