Click to See Complete Forum and Search --> : Which modem?
My personal choices for modems, 3Com (or the older 56k US Robotics Sportsters) for internal (non winmodem), and Diamond, Supra Express, model 56e for external. They are both excellent modems under all line conditions, and can be found on http://www.pricewatch.com/ for under $90. I don't have any recommendations for cases and Dominus has answered you question about the Voodoo3 card.

All right, for the past few days I've been scouring the bargain pc dealer sites, www.techbargains.com, (http://www.techbargains.com,) resellerratings, etc.
I've learned a lot about everything i need to buy, except for ONE thing. Modems. I need a 56K modem that I can Tweak. Not some **** winmodem. And it should be below 90 bucks cuz my system is gonna cost less than 1000 total.
Oh, and another small question, if I have a graphics accelerator(voodoo3) will i still need a video card?
One more thing. I saw a thread earlier about painted cases. What kind of paint should i use?(I cant find any black Athlon cases)

Not sure about the modems; I haven't used one since the days of 33.6 (God Bless Broadband).
But your Voodoo3 is a videocard. Your confusion probably sems from the voodoo2, a 3d accellerator which required another videocard for 2D.
All you need to do is plug the V3 in and go. Nothing else required.
I haven't yet painted a case, but Krylon spray paints have served me well for many other applications.
3Com, formerly US Robotics, is almost everyone's favorite modem maker. They set the standards. There are three kinds of modem. Some (hardware) have all of the modem's works on the card. Others (Winmodem, HSP) move some or all of the duties into the CPU and OS of the computer. Depending on how much other activity is going on at the same time, these work well and cost much less. If you want to be sure to get the best performance, select a hardware modem, either internal or external.

I recently installed a Supra Express 56ki that I purchased at Sam's Club for $70. Works great. In fact, I went back and bought another for my new build.
