You most certainly do need a firewall!

For Windows Black Ice Defender is supposed to be a good one.

I use Linux on my router/firewall machine and ipchains works well for me - I configure it with a program called pmfirewall.

I was directed to ZoneLabs.com by a friend to try out their free program called Zone Alarm. Simple to use and understand. No complaints from me especially after buying McAfee Firewall only to have it spit the dummy after upgrading to ME (even after installing the relevant patch and trying from scratch with an updated version). Give Zone Alarm a go.

ATGuard is the only one for me http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif

I've tried almost every possible Firewall out there, including those mentioned in this article - ATGuard beats them all !!!

Thanks everyone. Now that I know of a few firewalls, I will give them a try. Im using zone alarm right now, but it seems to use alot of resources. I will try to find one that doesn't. Thanks Again for your help. If you have any more Info I'll be glade to hear it.

If you don't mind spending a few bucks (less than a hundred), you could try a hardware firewall/router/switch. I'm running the Dlink DI-707 which is connecting 3 puters to the net, and the ISP only sees one. I have no noticeable speed loss and total security.

Im using tiny firewall now. It doesn't use a lot of resources and it seems to work good. It has stopped quite a few attacks. Thanks Warthog.
