Hi all,

Something happens on my system, that puzzles me beyond my understanding! http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif

1. I have a "Local Settings" folder, in my WINDOWS folder, which contains a "Temporary Internet Files" folder. This "Temporary Internet Files" folder seems to be the one that stores my MSIE cache (its size suggests this, and it is the one specified under Internet Options | Temporary Internet Files | Settings).
The problem is, I have never set my system up for multiple users, never specified any other location for MSIE cache, and, moreover, I have nowhere else seen this "Local Settings" folder, on any system running Win98SE (as mine).
My system's setup:
- Win98SE (clean install, all Windows Update fixes applied)
- MSIE 5.5 SP1 (5.50.4522.1800); Q279328

2. Yesterday, I noticed the following strange behaviour, for the second time:
My "Cookies", "History" and "Temporary Internet Files" folders have been mirrored in my C:\TEMP folder, for no apparent (at least to me http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif) reason.
I have absolutely no clue why this is happening.
My AUTOEXEC.BAT contains the line:
SET TEMP=C:\TEMP
as I don't like WINDOWS' default setting (having a temporary folder inside %WINDIR%).
Could this possibly be a (the) problem? Why?!

If anybody can come up with an answer...

Thanks in advance!

1.My local settings folder seems to have been created by outlook2000? Do you have outlook installed. No temp folders.

2. Do you have more than one cookie folder? The normal one and the one in the \\temp folder? Are they identical date wise?

Thanks for your reply!

1. Yes, I have Outlook2000, but I can't remember whether *it* created the "Local Settings" folder or not; anyway, why does Windows keep the "Temporary Internet Files" folder, once Outlook2000 is installed?
[NOTE: My "Local Settings" folder date - *and* the date of the "Temporary Internet Files" folder contained in it (both have the same date *and* time) - is *one day before* the date of my "Microsoft Office" folder, so "Local Settings" is not likely to have been created after installing Outlook2000 (?)]

2. As in my first posting above... No, the two folders' dates are different. It's not only "Cookies", but "History" and "Temporary Internet Files" as well, and this is the second time this happens.
(could you be more specific? http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif)
