I just had the craziest thing happen to me about 30 minutes ago..... I installed an English version of DirectX 8.0a on my non-English Version of Win2K and the hard disk wouldn't stop spinning when I booted into the desktop. It just sat there and kept spinning for over 5~10 minutes. I rebooted the system about 4 times and same thing! So I installed a correct language Version of DirectX 8.0a and the problem just stopped...... I didn't know that the language version mattered when installing DirectX , did you guys?

Thank god the problem was solved, I though I was in for a new install of Win2k.... Hewwwwww......

I didn't know about the language thingo but good to know it now! I hate installing Windows 2000.. takes so long! All other OSes install much much faster! Well lucky you didn't have to though. http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif

Another thing I discovered with DirectX 8.0a is that it isn't compatible with certain games. This happened to me on my Win98SE system where some games wouldn't run after installing DirectX 8.0a. Fortunately, there is a DirectX 8.0a uninstaller available, but I don't think there's one for Win2K... or is there?
