I've tried everyway I know how to shut the system down. Everytime just when the box should be turning off, up comes the video card bios screen, quickly followed by the memory check... Soon enough I am back into windows again.

Win98SE on the same box shuts down perfectly.

Any ideas? I have recently installed both the dreaded Netscape 6 (had to help a friend debug his website...) and Opera 5.02 (<- I think it was .02 what ever is the latest version as of 3 days ago)

Thanks for any and all help

RaT

In related threads, it is suggested to install SP1.

Any other ideas?

Go to run and type: regedit

And then go to:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon\PowerdownAfterShutdown

change the value from 0 to 1

Don't love me yet! It doesn't work in all circumstances from my past experience....

Hey NDC, a combination of what you suggested

<quote>
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon\PowerdownAfterShutdown

change the value from 0 to 1
</quote>

and changing this variable as well;

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Curre ntVersion\Explorer] "cleanshutdown"

change to value '1'

has fixed my problem.

Thank you SO much for your help, it didn't fix it right away but it did remind me of something I had read somewhere else.

Strangely enough, after I rebooted the variable I listed above has returned to '0' However Win2K still shuts down as advertised.

Thanks again,
RaTzo
