i have win2k and i was browsing through the hardware profiles and it seems that the region of the dvd drive can change region one more time and then it seems that win2k will change the drive to the region permitantly!!!! is there anyway to overide this i dont want this dvd drive to be a region x drive forever!

I think that when the region is changed in the player's BIOS, it actually changes something in the firmware. It isn't W2K that's changing the region on the drive, it's the drive itself.

The only way to get around this is to get an unnofficial firmware for your drive. If you look, odds are that you'll find something.

Hi

I recently had a load of trouble with my PC DVD-ROM.I would suggest looking at a site called Digital Digest. They have a list of drives which are region locked by the drive's firmware and in most cases a solution.
Another thing to do is download a program called DVDGenie. This program has lots of tweaks and stuff mostly for software players. Sometimes Windows will give you six changes of region and depending on which player you have (WinDVD, PowerDVD,etc), DVDGenie can bypass this to allow region changes indefinitely.

Another site to try is 7th Zone for more info (although I found their download section a bit naff as I could'nt download anything !)

I hope this helps and I have'nt been trying to teach my Granny how to suck eggs !!
