#1--HP- new lines are killing the competition in print qualit and still killing the field in longevity
#2--blank b/c noone comes close
#3--Epson, printers often don't last more than a year and a half but great print (not as good as HP anymore)
#4-- Lexmark--good print, cartridges hard to find sometimes
#5--Canon-- badly built, the 6000 is nice

Wow I didn't know that. http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/smile.gif
Your result are very interesting it may me realized that I could be wrong.
This is very important for some people who want to make a decision on deciding which to get and not.
I almost got sucked into buying a Canon one time not knowing if it is good or not.
More input Plz. http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/smile.gif
I may lack a little brain power but a little curiousity may bring me wisdom. http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/smile.gif
Forget the hype, forget the free goodies and forget the test results. If you buy a Canon you will regret it. I've currently got an Epson but HP would definitely be a great choice.

I have a Canon 7004 and I can say that I have yet to see a printer that can do as a HIGH QUALITY job as it does. I'm in to graphics for a hobby (i.e. Coreldraw 7,8 and 9, Raydream 5.5, Carrara, Terregen, etc.). There is nothing worse than making a kick @ss image than printing it out and noticeing lines going across it. It is the best at printing photos too. The fonts look like they came out of a laser printer. They also had there win2k drivers out before most did.
As for HP, try to get win2k drivers for some of there printers, scanners or cd-rw's. I have had that BJC-7004 for 1 1/2 years and never had one problem with it.

and that folks is my 2 cents!
I've had a H/P for about 6 yrs and still going great. We have mainly H/P at work (better quality ones of course) and they never give any trouble and never get any regular checks except toner or cartridge replacements.
I liked the blurb on the canon's bjc7100 and decided to give it a go. At the time its reviews were doing very well compared to more expensive Epsons & H/Ps, I think mainly for its extra colours in its cartridges at the time. I've found its been good for home use. It's not as fast as my old H/P but I think the print is better.
I think most of the brands have lifted their game as far as price and quality - I cant comment on customer support from either brand because I've never needed it for home or work printers.

Go with HP. I have had nothing but HP and have not had one bit of trouble. I don't think you will regret it.
Having great service from my HP LaserJet 6L after 1.5 years. Does it's job trouble-free and without annoying me.
Also have a Canon C2500 which has been a lot of trouble. Eats printheads and cartridges at an alarmong rate. Their tech support replaced it once, and offered to "upgrade" it when the second one did the same. They admitted to an ink-handling defect in the C2500, but they would only offer a unit which I found unacceptable and lacked the primary feature which attracted me in the first place!
They would NOT budge from this position. Guess they won that battle since I kept the 2500...
But from the sounds of it, many others are unhappy so they're losing in the long run, huh. http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/biggrin.gif
Never had a Lexmark, so no opinion to offer, and my last Epson was a dot-matrix about 10 yrs ago...worked well but that's a long time ago!

i've had my HP 890C for over 2 years now. It still prints great and it has great quality, plus, the cartridges dont run out as quickly, either.

I had a HP for a while. I thought that it was very bulky. I sold it to a friend and he said it wouldn't work. Bought a Lexmark and am happy with it, except for the price of cartriges. Way too expensive!!!

I've got two Canon BJC-250 Lite's that have been used just about everyday for the last three years, and they've been trouble free. Print quality is excellent, photo quality is good to excellent, and regular picture quality is good. They don't hog ink, and the cartridges won't break you. I bought a Lexmark Z-11 earlier this year, and while it was an excellent printer, I was in for a rude awakening the first time I had to buy a cartridge.....it's my brother's problem now. My father has an HP (fairly new, but I don't know the model number off hand) and it seems like a good printer, but it takes up a lot of desk space, and shakes the desk pretty good when the print head goes back and forth. The last Epson I had was an old dot matrix that used to shred ribbons on a regular basis.

I've had an HP DeskJet 722C for about 3 years- never a single problem, prints beautiful pictures and text, and most important: it's as reliable as a hammer.
While the others may be excellent printers as well, it'll never be anything but HP for me. http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/wink.gif
My .02 worth...
HP is number one at general consumer demands.
Epson is good for photography printing....
Canon is also a good all-rounder...
and Lexmark is a good cheap alternative...
HP: 1
Canon: 2
Epson: 3
Lexmark: 4
Ok... I have an HP, and I'm happy..

I have used Canon & Hp's. I would have to say the HP's are by far the best. I am still using an old HP LaserJet IIIP. That boy is still kicking out the print. I use a HP 895 @ work. I just printed some pics out on it for a test. They came out excellent. I have an old Canon BJ200 that is still doing text jobs. It is about 6 or 7 years old and has printed reams of text. ÿ

My choice is always Epson, and I've never had any problems.
I know lots of people who hate HP including myself. I had a 720 for 2 months and no matter what I did, it would get jammed, the print would be bad quality, e.t.c. And yes I did get a second one under warranty, but in the end I got rid of it.
Epson have good OS support, and had Win2k drivers for a while befor the OS was released. This is much better that HPp who still haven't released drivers for lots of their printers.
I also detest HP as they totally dumped support for the Scanjet 5p package, claiming that they had no intention of making drivers for it in Win2k. So I gave my 5p to a friend, and got myself a nice new Epson which has Win2k drivers for performs great.
The school has Canons, and everyone always tries to get their network print to an Epson, that'll tell you. http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/wink.gif
Wouldn't know about lexmark, but they're supposed to be a good printer.

BTW my reason for liking HP so much is their 2400 x 2400 dpi print. The 920c has 2400 x 1200 and is around $150 US.

Save your sanity and stay several meters away from any Lexmark printer.
I've worked with over a dozen different Lexmark models, and not one of them was worth using as an anchor, let alone a printer.
The drivers are absolute garbage, and the print catridges are nearly as expensive as the printers themselves.

HPs are good, and some Canons are OK. Epsons wil get the job done, but will deafen you in the process
