Sometimes tradeoffs are worth it.

And if your printer doesn't work in Win2k, it probably isn't an HP (and therefore.... well, I won't go there http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/wink.gif).

You mean a MicroShaft operating system actually has documented bugs? http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/wink.gif

BTW, my personal pref for printers is Cannon. To each their own. http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/smile.gif

Only 150! Well that is not bad at all. I bet that list was at least three times that size a year ago.

I talked a friend into installing W2K not long ago. They bought a 3-n-1 printer/scanner/fax machine and the scanner does not work in W2K. She went back to Win95 and within a few days W2K was reinstalled. She said "I am spoiled and will never use 95 again". And she is running it on a 233MHZ HP.

sometimes you can work around the need for win2k drivers...just install the win9x drivers!! (it worked in the beginning!)

picky, picky. http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif maybe some folks would like to use a cannon on their canon http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif

i seriously doubt you can use 9x drivers with an nt platform. and if you could i thought that would casue some issues. don't really feel like formating and re installing blah

I believe he meant NT drivers instead of Win9x, since Win2K utilizes a similar hardware abstraction layer as NT4. This pratice will "generally" work for several common hardware devices.

RobRich - Watch the spelling. http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif
I hope you meant Canon, not Cannon--big difference.

There's an Epson 640 printer driver for Windows 2000. You might give it a shot.

It amazes me that people want to pretend Microsoft doesn't document problems. I guess it's just more fun to bash than admit.

The way I look at it, if it doesnt support a million devices, and I dont own any of them or plan to get any of them, then its all good.
I recently went back to Win2k after about 4-5 months on ME. I was sick of it crashing all the time, and acting all slow the morning after I left it on all night.
And before it usta not work with some of my games, but the 2 it didnt work with were single player games I beat over the course of the last 4 months. So now all operations are running smoothly. I always thought my machine was too good for a platform that causes my computer to not be as stable as it can possibly be.
