The Price of ram......... ??

Hi,

Could someone please explain to me why the price of edo ram is so expensive ...?? Here in Canada I am looking at $130.00 for 1 32meg/72 pin simm. What I'd like is 4, but not at this price.

I've looked at sdram, and it is cheaper. Why is this ? Is this because it is more abundent and popular? And if edo ram is becoming less popular than sdram, why is it the most expensive .........?

No one wants it, I guess. SD-RAM is by far the most popular type of memory. Virtually every system uses it. RD-RAM is out there, but is plagued with problems at the moment as is extremely expensive.

Supply and demand.....................no one wants it really.........so when you need it,you will pay out of the ***** for it................kinda like getting lets say a power window motor for a 64 mercedes benz..............or a transmission for a VW vanagon.............

Ohhh, ok I see what you mean now. It's kinda like old Baseball cards, the more scarce they are... the more expensive they become.

The older stuff isn't made anymore, and there's still computers out there that use it, so the demand actually rises as the supply dries up. Personally I'm waiting until I can trade my two 16 meg edo chips for a 128 meg sdram chip. The price was pretty close for a little while there...

What you need to find is someone who's willing to break down an older system to sell you some, or a good friend/business owner who's willing to sell them to you at what their actually WORTH.

Yeah i can't believe how expensive EDO ram is. Good thing i found a great deal and got 2 16 meggers for less than 30 bucks with shipping. Just look around and see what you can find. Keep your eyes open! http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/smile.gif
