Anybody ever tried to triple boot using Win98,Win2kpro and NT 4.0 server? The problem I get is when I try to load the third os NT4 from win 98 I get the boot menu with win98, w2k and NT4 upgrade menu and I select NT4. Unfortunately, it just goes in a loop. Cycles down to 0 second and back up to the top i.e. 5 seconds.

Am I missing a step here? When I look in my C: drive/fat 16, the necessary files are there. Ntdr, boot.ini, etc, etc.

It seems like NT4 creates another loader but points itself to the same boot loader. Any links I could be pointed to? Thanks.

I have successfully booted to the three OS with 2000's boot loader. Install each OS in three different directories, keep C: as FAT16.

Then edit the boot.ini file to point to the directory that the OS was installed in.

Boot.ini format and instructions can be found at http://support.microsoft.com/support/kb/articles/Q254/2/74.ASP

You need to have WINNT installed before Win2k.

Thanks, I have not tried it that way yet. Will give it a try when I get home.

Skippy,

Can't point the boot loader to point to the directory if no OS is setup cuz it get stuck in the boot loader menu on an endless loop. i.e. when I am trying to setup NT4 server.

When the box reboots after NT copies the setup files to the hard drive, it then get into the loop.

I'll give the win98, nt4 server, w2kpro sequence a try. More to follow....

BP,

Thanks for the help. I am typing on my W2KPRO triple boot as I type. http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/smile.gif

Your info did the trick. I still had to use my ide33 to load up NT4 OS. Once I loaded the HPT370 drivers, no problemo. Able to use my UDMA100.

The W2KPRO is pretty much straight forward installation. Like I said earlier, I guess NT4 overlay the boot menu and point to itself. Creating a loop. So the best way to dual/triple boot is Win98, NT4, then W2K.
