Obviously I want to get rid of this monkey. tantone 06-16-2000, 11:10 AM I'm not too sure about Win2000, but NT uses pagefile.sys as the swap file. If you run Workstation, it should be set to the amount of your RAM plus 12MB. If you run server, it should equal your amount of RAM. Keep in mind that it will expand larger than your set size, but never shrink below it. I'm sure Win2000 works the same. Haven't had the opportunity to study up on 2000 yet. You have to have a pagefile. No way around it. To speed up your system you can move the pagefile to another physical disk off the disk with your system and boot partitions. psyklone 06-16-2000, 11:15 AM that's a paging file for virtual memory that NT uses, it's created in the root directory when you run setup. i'd leave it right where it is. http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/wink.gif Brydon 06-16-2000, 03:22 PM You can also share the pagefile between win2k and win98 if you dual boot but I can't remember how you do it but I read it on this site http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/smile.gif chipbgt 06-16-2000, 03:38 PM Seriously? That is just what I would like to do, instead of using around 600 megs for a swap file and virtual memory. anyone know how? wyvrn 06-17-2000, 06:21 PM Set a max and min size of say 150Mb and leave it. You really do not need any more or you need to install more RAM anyway. Brydon 06-17-2000, 06:50 PM I did a quick search and even though this is a bit dated the theory is the same. I am sure someone else would know how to do this and explain better for you than I can....Mntsnow or someone else http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/smile.gif. http://www.elementkjournals.com/ewn/9309/ewn3000b.htm Brydon 06-17-2000, 07:31 PM This might help as well and is more recent http://www.computertips.com/Windows/WindowsNT40/Miscellaneous/S9980611001.htm BBA 06-17-2000, 07:39 PM wyvrn is right. If you have over 128M ram, set min and max to 150 and leave it. Mntsnow 06-17-2000, 09:34 PM I too also run static sized pagefiles. I run usually with 128 to 256 megs of ram and my pagefile is set at 200megs but the most I have ever seen used so far is 70 megs so I'm probably going to shrink it down in size...Just have never gotten around to it. Mntsnow chipbgt 06-17-2000, 10:38 PM Thanks guys...I have done the following...Lowered my win98 swap file down to 150mb, and added a line in my win2000 system.ini to set the pagefile as win386.swp on the C drive. ets hope it works http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/smile.gif Wilan Wong 06-19-2000, 05:58 AM Pagefile.sys is what it looks like, it's the pagefile for Windows NT/2000 unlike Windows 95/98 which is win386.swp. hd581 06-20-2000, 01:08 PM Ok I added this to my NT system.ini under [386enh]: pagingfile=c:\win386.swp win386.swp does exist on my hard drive. Yet it still doesn't work. Is that what you did chip? SysOpt.com
