To check Drive C: on NTFS EX: C:\>chkdsk As for checking bad sectors for FAT32, I have no idea....... Win2K doesn't have a scandisk.log file, nor is this reported in Event Viewer.... I would also like to know how this can be done for FAT32 on Win2K. [This message has been edited by NDC (edited 02-18-2001).] otheos 02-18-2001, 09:36 AM where would I be without your help? thanks! unfortunatelly my brand new IBM 75GXP 30GB drive has 15K of bad clusters. This is the second IBM drive that develops bad clusters in the past 5 months. The one before was a 36LZX 10K U3W SCSI 36GB. I always favored IBM drives but after this I am a bit reluctang about buying IBM again. Last time a drive gave me bad sectors was in 1995 (it was a Quantum). What can I say. socalgal 02-18-2001, 01:03 PM Maintenance and Update Tools (http://www.microsoft.com/WINDOWS2000/library/resources/reskit/samplechapters/pref/pref_tts_nigm.asp) has alot of info on CHKDSK. Errors on the volume: If you opt to save, "...Windows 2000 attempts to identify the folder to which they belong. If the folder is identified, the lost cluster chains are saved there as files. If the folder cannot be identified or if the folder does not exist, it saves each chain of lost clusters in a folder called Found.xxx, where xxx is a sequential number starting with 000. If no folder Found.000 exists, one is created at the root. If one or more sequential folders called Found.xxx (starting at 000) exists, one using the next number in the sequence is created." As for a CHKDSK log... DrWatson ( :p ) reports stack dumps and other errors, but good luck reading all that... it's a horror unless you're good with UltraEdit and deciphering code :/ If there's a plaintext CHKDSK log, I've yet to find it... Biff 02-18-2001, 03:27 PM I had to take a IBM disk back that went kaput on me in Dec. The owner of the store wasn't suprised and told me that out of the 75 he bought a lot had to be sent back.
