I'm looking for recommendations for a good MP3 recording software package -

I sometimes like to cut the intro off songs or endless loop some instrumentals -

Any thoughts on what's good to do this with?

I'd like to go through a sound card with this - I haven't had much luck with ripper software and prefer to pipe it in myself off my stereo hardware - give me recommendations on this as well.

Creative labs has such a device that will not only play mp3,s, but record from an external source as well as play and ripp from CD's - but they are REAL proud of this ( $500+ ) and I'm not yet prepared to pay that much -

Hi Axel

Myself I like sound forge, it came with my SBL MP3+ but you can get an demo tryout http://www.sonicfoundry.com It enables you to save in lots of different formats and a large number of options to manipulte the track to the way you want. For just converting or playing MP3's I like Music Match jukebox. If you want to normalize your tracks try Soundstream by Adaptec.

If your soundcard has a line in, there should be no problem recording from an outside source. Soundforge will do it, your win media player should also, check for an option like "record what u hear" I can also do that from my SBL recorder as well.
Good Luck.

not even a nibble - I thought for sure a few audio-philes would hop in and chew on this one.....
