****. What did they do to NT????
It's like a cross between NT and 98. What heppened to going to Network N'Hood and seeing what you wanted to see. Now you have to click on Entire Network, then you have to tell it again to show you what you want!
And what about User Manager?!?!? Where the hell did that go? They stuck it in the control panel (which I guess kind of makes sense) along with every other system setting that used to be in the Administrative Tools section.
What do y'all think about the changes? Is Windows 2000 all it's cracked up to be? I'm not just asking for garbage post reasons. Hopefully someone has some insight and some good opinions on this. Please, come shed some light on the new Microsoft OS.
It was a culture shock for me as well.
The first time I loaded it ( as beta ) I was in immediate dislike.
Then as the later versions came out, I tried it some more, learned a little about it and now I feel NT4 is just old hat and needs to die. ( I work supportting NT4 all day long, couldn't you tell? ).
Give it a try, watch all the MS demos of what neat functions it has, learn a little of it's uniquenesses and you will find it is so much more than NT4 can ever be!
I think it's awesome personally.

I believe what I have is the standard human reluctance to change. I'm so used to NT4 that this is driving me nuts. I want to ***** about it rather than accept it and be happy. Isn't that a sign of getting old??

Actually, win2k is much better than Nt4.0 either at the Server or Workstation. It runs faster and it supports more softwares. You can still use the "Network neighborhood if you click on my Network places. In fact, win2k poolished some of the user and administrator's tools making them more efficient and reliable.
I am very happy with it and I am not a Bill Gates' fan.

Win2000 has many differences to Windows NT 4 and they are all "positive" but it is not a necessity to upgrade it immediately. If you like games then you should upgrade as soon as the drivers come out. Because Win2000 has DirectX7 support, Plug and Play and supports a majority of games. Well, that's my opinion though so many other people have different attitudes to Windows... I hate Bill Gates... and want to switch to Linux when I get the **** thing working... http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/smile.gif Right now, Windows rules my computer.

I like 2k ,the best thing I've seen so far in 2k that I love is the fact that you don't have to reboot after every network change you make, that alone is a bonus. The DM and monitor issues I've posted already are kindy weird - but most of my off brand hardware even works ( with NT 4.0 drivers )- It looks good so far - and have you seen the Linux game Kill Bill Gates yet ?
