Heres what you do if you get banned from Napster
1. You'll probably need to create a new account, so click on Start, Run, type in
regedit.

2. Navigate to this key: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\software\Napster. On the right side of the window after you click on the Napster folder, delete the key that says "CurrentUser". Also delete any folders below the Napster folder. (i.e. click on the plus sign and remove all those folders that have usernames.)

3. Now do a search (ctl-f) for these things one at a time:
35D38C13-1434-AB7E-003483943341AA
A1AD8C13-1383-5343-DCC38E43FF0AAE
CAD8C813-1F34-1B3E-00CEAE43FF0AAD
Delete every instance that you find of these keys. Hit F3 to continue searching. There are about 3 or 4 instances of each of these keys.

4. Reboot your system. (just in case.)

for those of us with broadband, that is no enough. You also need to get a new IP assigned by your ISP.

If you need the de-ban link, I know where it is. It wil solve anything you might incur except static-IP ban.

I didn't get banned (hated metallica before) but what can us cable owners do besides changing ip numbers? Do the ISPs need a valide excuse to change it? What effects will it have?

This is something that bothers me about the whole Napster issue. I have a fairly extensive cd collection. I download mp3s, with cable connection it's faster than ripping the tracks myself. So, if I download a song I already purchased on cd, then I haven't really violated a copyright. But I can still be banned?
Unless they want to verify which cds I own, they are violating my rights to use the software in a legitimate fashion.

I think the issue is silly. FTP sites have done the same thing for years, but since someone made it easier to do, it's a problem now?

I gave up on Napster, I use CuteMX instead.

Yes, you can still be banned. The ting is, metallica didnt even check to see if those mp3's were legit. For example, they did not download a suspect song, to see if it was real or not, in stead they just issued a ban.

So i had a bootleg of one of their concerts, they did not check it, they went solely on the filename...

So, it sounds like the way they ban people is ineffective, arbitrary, and uninformed.

I think thats why they let this link go. This is a little different than a serial number, or Ware# copies of software.
