Sound Blaster Live platinum with Cambridge soundworks DTT2500 digital surround sound speakers and subwhoofer shown at the top of this page:
http://www.creative.com/destinations/cambridge-soundworks/

I guess my accesories for it include a dvd player and a dual cassette deck hooked up to make cd's out of cassettes or play cassettes through the computer speakers.

love it.

I've just got a generic soundblaster compatible card, but I've got a technics stereo amp and speakers connected to it via the line out connection.

This gives almost as good sound as my main stereo system, and certainly sounds pretty good for a computer!

Also, I've used the Tape rec/playback loop on the amp to connect a turntable to my PC, for purpose of turning some old vinyl I've got into CD's. Led Zep, Pink Floyd, AC/DC etc..
New life for old records!

Don't you just love PC's!

A generic built-in SB compatible soundcard and (I hope this isn't too much of a shocker) a pair of Sennheiser HD580's. http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/biggrin.gif

Sblive x-gamer with digital connection to dtt2500's...with an old Paisley Research box with an 8" pretending to be a sub. It's better than the stock sub anyway.

Currenty use a Soundblaster 64 but will be upgrading to Live! in a few weeks.

Ok, here we go (drum role please)......

A pair of 15" 150w Pioneer speakers as front l/r and two 6 1/2" 60w speakers as rear l/r hooked up to Pioneer amplifier. Makes for great sound and vibrations in my small app. 12' by 12' room http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/smile.gif. The highest volume I ever have it is when the knob is about 1/3 turned. That produces so much vibration that my windows rattle (my mom said she could hear them rattle from outside) and when I'm sitting, I can feel my jeans move. I've had to take down one picture hanging on the wall; others have fallen down by themselves.

What's funny is that I only paid $360 for it all. Sam's Club is the best.

I love big speakers. http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/smile.gif http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/smile.gif

Whatever is build into my K7M, pumping into a 1,000 watt stereo system with 4 speekers and a subwoofer, if I want to make my ears bleed, it can turn it up to about 4 of 10, unbeleivable sound even at levals approaching mute.

Hi

Hooked up to the line out jack on the back of my sound card is a Technics Stereo amp
roughly 4x43 watts RMS although I only have too speaker boxes hooked up. One box
having an 8" woofer with a 3" horn tweeter and a sonab crossover. The speakers are not
to good the box is probably to big for them and it could do with a port. I made this up a
few years ago great for the comp though.

Well, I used to have my SB Live mp3+ DTT2500s (hooked up digitally), my FPS1000s (hooked up to the front line-out), and a JVC 3-speaker set (hooked up to the rear line-out). It really rocked... from the highs to the deep bass. Unfortunately, I had to pull the FPS1000s and the JVC speakers because I needed them for other systems. The DTT2500 setup still does a nice job though... much better than the JVCs. http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/smile.gif

I went away for a week a while back and just had the JVCs hooked up to my CD player. I came back and was blown away by how well my system sounded. I guess that's what happens... you just get used to great, clean sound.

On one computer with a sound blaster ensoniq64 pci I have the output running to an old JVC 35W/ch reciever with some home-built 2-way speakers. The sound is very clean with plenty of bass.

On another computer with built in pci sound I have it running into my main surround sound system, a Sony 200W pro logic surround reciever, 2 front speakers (pioneer 3-ways with 12" woofers), a centre channel and two small rear speakers. Also has a powered sub with 2-12" woofers which I built myself. The woofers are mounted in a sealed enclosure with one in the middle, inside of the box facing the other one's back. You can only see the one speaker, the front one. It's a nice small box, about 17" square. I power the sub with an old 75W amp with a radio shack active crossover on the input.

The only way to go is to use an external amp and some good speakers http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/wink.gif

Soundblaster PCI 128 (one of the first revisions)c connected to a Yamaha A-700 integradet stereo amplifier via a Yamaha GE-3 graphic equalizer. One pair of Jamo 330E speakers (each 2x11").

Back system is a Fisher CS-223 i/A ad one pair of Pioneeer (unknown model) (each 1x10")

There are cables everywhere here. I can use the four-speaker setup for surround when playing games, all of them in stereo-config when listening to music, reversed stereo when watching tv (tv is on the other side of the room, so I have to turn around), and finally one cable for the DVD.
Next week I will (hopefully) add a Dolby Digital decoder to the setup.

Shadow, you've got that right. The ONLY way to go is to have an external amp. http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/smile.gif. Not that "regular" pc speakers aren't bad (some of those better models probably have better sound clarity than mine), I just appreciate the earth shaking, window shattering, pulsing, thump of a monster speaker and/or subwoofer. http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/smile.gif

But it all depends on what you want.

Chipbgt: When you hook the DTT2500s up digitally throught the SB Live! digital hookup (their proprietary one), all the speakers are present and accounted for just as if you had plugged them in to the analog front and rear line-outs.

However, this doesn't stop the analog outs from putting out a signal. So you can have other speakers plugged into those outs with no problems. Since the FPS1000 is a 4-speaker setup, it can handle all of the front channel or be split across both channels. It's just in how you want to mess with it. I guess I just liked the mixing sound of 3 different subwoofers. http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/smile.gif

Sound...? My favourite.. Ex-Dj.. Sound Engineer for bands... Yeehaaa... Here We Go...

Ok, Soundblaster PCI128, Not the greatest, but the quality of sound is GREAT. Connected to my Technics SU-C800U Pre-amplifier wich is connected to 2x Sentec 400w monoblock poweramp's(Tested!). After that comes my pride: Genelec 1049A monitor speakers, small, but extremely pure sounded miracle's! (When my friends tell me to "show-off" they always wan't to know where the subwoofer is http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/smile.gif )
I'm also very found of doing my few thousand vinyls to some great "best of tepo" CD's...

Diamond Monster MX300 hooked up to an Altec ACS48 system. 40w subwoofer plus 20w satellites sound tight and are plenty enough for me. I get lots of "turn that thing down!" from the wife.

I've got the mx300 from diamond with the mx30 add-on card!!!

I have 2 sattelite speakers, 120W each and a 300W woofer.

I used to have another 2 120W speakers hooked up to it, but they are now reserved for my second system!!!

Oh My God!!!!

All you guys have such great systems!!!!

I got a generic sounblaster 16 compatible ISA sound card...

And all I got is a pair of like 18 watt satallites that come with a any old computer system, ( Don't get me wrong, I built this baby myself.. http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/smile.gif ). And a pair of old car 6x9's put in some old Pulser speaker boxes hooked up to a amp that still has a 8-Track built into it.....

And I thought it sounded good, but it doesn't compare tp all of yours..... http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/frown.gif

I must upgrade!!!!!!! http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/smile.gif

It wouldnt take that much inferior. get yourself to some garage sales, buy an old amplifier or reciever with some decent watts, a pair of older speakers that arent burnt and you have some great computer sound for a bargain price.

If I get that summer job I've been aiming for, I know what I am getting!!!!

For like 550 bucks american dough, off a friend I can get a 500 watt Pioneer Dolby Prologic deck, a Pioneer 5 disc cd-changer, and a set of Cerwin-Vega speakers with 12's in em that can handle 500 watts each no problem!!!! They have a lot of bass and they retail for like 600 bucks a pair alone!!!

I think this would be a good investment!!! http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/smile.gif

Random Tip from the Tip Closet:
When buying a sound system at a young age, keep in mind that you probably will be living in an apartement for the first several years after schooling, and there you can never turn up the volume as loud as you want it to go. Be sure to get a setup that sounds good at low volumes foremost, and realize that if you spend more for more, you won't get to use it 99% of the time that you want to.

Computer is hooked to my home theater. Pioneer 4x100watt front, 3x80 center and rear. Using the digital out on my SB X-Gamer.

It sounds great loud but I do need something for low volume.

WEll...I'm building a subwoofer cabinet right now. Got a cheap Pioneer GM-X324 I'm gonna run 4 speaker trimode on 2 12" sub's and custom HF units from my SB-Live. (The sub's are pretty awesome too, there 400W test units from a major manufacturer of esoteric audio equipment.)

Believe it or not, those old 300W AT powersupplies are the best for high current stereo amplifiers in this kind of application!

What type of cable/connector do I need to use, which input, in the surround sys is recommended?

It's some RCA plug which I can't remember the name of http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/smile.gif. I couldn't quite see the little pictures on my sound card in the back of my comp, so I just plugged it in one of the 2 remaining different holes till I got sound http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/smile.gif. I'll find out tomorrow unless another member beats me to it.

Yaroa, to hook that up to your comp, you need a cable that has a headphone jack on on end ( like on regular computer speakers to hook into the sound card ), and on the other end to be 2 RCA male hookups ( To hook up to the amplifier as the input jacks ).

If you have any regular male RCA cables now, you can get an adapter that takes 2 male RCA cables and converts it into a headphone jack.

LOL Joel:

When buying a sound system at a young age, keep in mind that you probably will be living in an apartement for the first several years after schooling

I had the killer 500 watt system in the dorms. It became an immediate liability when I moved out into the real world. LOL! The neighbors would freak out when they saw the speakers! Finally had to put it in the basemet and carpet the walls and ceiling to deaden the sound.
