Hi,

I had a portable with WINME as OS. When I try to install WIN2K PRO, it displays something like it didn't recognize the OS. Does anyone have a way to install WIN2K under WINME? Any help is greatly appreciated.

Hello,

Did you try to boot from the W2K CD and install?

Hope it helps!

Thanks for your help.

I try the CD but it can't boot. Anyway I have been told that I have to use either WINNT.EXE under DOS or WINNT32.EXE under WINDOWS instead of running setup. Also I just find out at DELL discussion forum that there is known issue about dual boot(WINME & WIN2K) problems. In order to boot correctly on an INSPIRON you have to cold boot it. Based on my understanding, let say that you have boot in WIN2K, you can not just Shut down and restart then boot into WINME. You need to Shutdown completely then turn it back on then boot into WINME.

You mentioned dual booting in your second post. Try the search feature ( just to right of post new topic in each forum) I got something like 40 matches for "dual booting" in tech support forum and 60 in applications and os.
Your answer may be there.
