Basically what happens is that when i want to shutdown the comp, the system shows me a messed up screen (strange colors and patterns) where the 'It is safe to switch of your computer now' message in orange text on black background should be...any ideas what the problem may be ?.
Thanks in advance,
KKF.

Don't feel alone, Kooba...There are literally thousands of 98 boxes out there with the same stupid problem. My HP at work has done this ever since I had to do a reinstall.
Just yesterday I had to grab some files off a co-workers hard drive(his mobo died). Hooked er up to my secondary ide and Bingo, it shuts down normally. Go figure!
Whistler better be good.

Thats good to hear, at least i am not the only one with this stupid problem, i mean its not tragic, the computer shutsdown alright, just looks odd when your screem looks so jumbled up.
Would be nice to know whats causing this.

Kooba, I once had the same problem with winblows 98 shutdown screen .....I used scanreg /fix ..to fix the problem ....it brought the screen back to the normal winblows logo..... I am sure you must have tried this but I thought I would mention it anyway ..

Just in case I did not explain prompt well enough it should look like this to start the utility
C:\WINDOWS>scanreg /fix (hit enter)
to re start winblows the prompt should look like this
C:\WINDOWS>exit (hit enter)

ok ...here is how you start the journey to fixing the registry ....restart the computer in MS_DOS mode ...when the prompt C:\WINDOWS> starts type this in.. scanreg /fix.. (dont forget the space )and hit enter...the utility will start and repair your registry ..when it finishes it will say it has been repaired.. hit enter again.you will come to another prompt type in exit and winblows will restart .....when you shut down the next time the you should be able to read winblows in all its glory ......let me know .....good luck....Driver
