Hi. I am curious. Can double sided tape work as thermal adhesive tape.
Note: I am talking about the white tape that can stick on both sides.

Note: I am talking about the white tape that can stick on both sides. catcow 06-10-2000, 10:09 AM I know that TMC use this type of tape to stick heatsinks onto the BX chips on their mobo's and they also use it on some of their VIA chipset boards too. I'm not sure if it's exactly the same stuff as you can buy in your local store though. KillerBug 06-10-2000, 01:54 PM Ya, but then again, putting a drop of superglue down will alow more heat transfer than even thermal tape. catcow 06-10-2000, 04:01 PM Superglue is good but i've found that after being exposed to heat for a length of time it becomes very brittle and breaks away. Has anyone else had this trouble? hackercarlos 06-10-2000, 06:24 PM Wow!! I never heard about using super glue to attach a heatsink. So how long does it take to get brittle guys ? hackercarlos 06-11-2000, 12:57 AM Hi catcow and thanks for the reply. I agree with you. I do not think the regular Double sided tape will work. http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/biggrin.gif I think that I have to use one made for thermal transfer. http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/smile.gif krusty the klown 06-12-2000, 04:12 AM I think you would be better off using a thin layer or regular thermal paste, then using some other means to attach the heatsink (if you need to). The general feelings of this 4rum is that thermal tape/pad is cr@p. There is a valid reason to this - tape/pad cannot be put on as thinly as the paste: the idea is to have as thin layer as possible. If you need to use some sort of glue to attach the heatsink, use thermal epoxy - it is designed for adhesion and heat transfer and is the best stuff for the job! (obviously, it's fairly permanent, though http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/wink.gif alondra 06-18-2000, 11:14 AM would definatly recomend thermal, paste, the object is 100% contact between heatsink and the chip, tape will not do this and could act as a heat insulator. dont most heatsinks have a fastening device. those I have used have.
