Hi to all,

My Win2k Pro work station is connected to a LAN and managed by a Win2k server (using AD). Also I can surf the net by using the shared ADSL modem via Linksys 4 ports Router.

My question is whether it is possible to have my machine turn on and be able to surf the net without turning on the server.

Please advise.

That could work. It will depend on the Windows policies that are in place and the application configurations. Even something as simple as a leased IP address not being given because the server is off could stop the Internet access. Or if your browser actually resides on the server then you couldn't use it to get on the Internet.

I think you would just have to try it since there are too many "unknowns" for a firm answer to be given.

Well what I would do is turn off the server first, then carefully turn on your other computer. Once it is running click on your internet symbol on the screen and Voila!
Your answer is..............

t works, even if I disconnect my win2k machine from the network and log onot my machine and I can still surf the net.
