I'm not sure if this is your call or not, but i don't think that it's fair to lock a thread because of a reason like that. I would assume that there is some way to change that option, but some of us are still participating in a civil and informative discussion.
thanks

I will assume you talking about:
http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/Forum1/HTML/006781.html

This is my interpretation: The issue in question was dealt with in the mandatory manner of the rules of this board. It is a board policy that the users email address be right (most UBB sites require this).

Just simply start a new post with the same title, but put a II or 2 after it. That is the most simple way to address this issue.

Besides it will be opened again once the email address is straightened out. Its not the end of the world dude http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/smile.gif Like Rob said just start a new thread. no biggie.

If you read the last posting (by Socalgal) you will see that the reason the thread was closed was that there was an invalid email address in a profile. This causes trouble with the server and the thread will be reopened once the email address is corrected.

Hehe - can we close this thread now? http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/wink.gif

Close it...Close it http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/smile.gif Yep that's one thing I like about the threads that do get locked...They get an explanation on why http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/smile.gif you just have to read it http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/smile.gif

Looks like you guys covered the reasons for the lock accurately and well! http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/smile.gif

Zskillz, as you gave no reference to which thread you are referring, http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/smile.gif I'll also assume you mean the thread above linked by RobRich.

As NeilTrain's email address was changed to an invalid one just prior to the lock, there's no way for me to email NeilTrain to inquire about it.

Any thread checked with the email notification option with an invalid email registered will be locked, with the reason stated, until a valid email address is provided and verified.

Hopefully, NeilTrain will see it and respond to me soon.

Can someone please close that thread all together, it has gone far enough now, it is much too long for me to stay intrested......

Hey Inferior, just don't go there anymore. Some may still be interested.

I appreciate it, but i have no trouble understanding why the post was locked. The reason i originally posted this thread was because i don't understand why everyone must be admonished as a result of nielTrain's mistake. As I said before, I found the topic interesting, and I was hoping to continue it.

In the end, I have to say that I'm surprised by the fact that some people suggested starting a new thread. Although that is a viable option, it's certainly more difficult to make a reference to the original thread while you're in the 'new' thread in my opinion.

anyway, as I said originally, i was enjoying the thread, and i hope that there is a way around the neilTrain problem (can't u edit the original post somehow.. socal?). I don't know much about the technical side of this forum, so I don't know if you can change that.

Regardless, I certainly wasn't upset, just unhappy the the reason that the thread was closed.

If the software allowed us to, we would simply disable the original poster's option to receive an email notification each time someone posts to the thread. Unfortunately, that's not possible. Since his email address is invalid, every time someone posts to the thread, *I* get a bounced email.

Since I get 100+ emails a day as it is, I really don't want to sift through a dozen more - we have the policy in place because it would really get out of hand if several threads had invalid emails and I was getting the bounces from all of them.

So, we close threads until the person can correct. Or, here's a solution, zskillz, if you want, I can change NeilTrain's email to yours, so you'll get all of the email notifications on his threads.

SysOpt,
aahhhhh.... THANK YOU, that was the answer that I was looking for all along. the software actually won't allow it. I really do understand why it is such a hassel for you to deal with now. I just needed to know if that was the only problem.

Anyway, I suppose that i don't mind if you put my email in there. i liked the discussion, and i suppose there wont' be to many more responses anyway...
i believe that the email that you have in there is correct, but just in case it isn't...

thanks again!

I also was intrested, but most of it was just bickering and *****ing, so I lost total interest.

If it had stayed on topic, than sure, keep it open by all means.

But I asked a question in the thread, and I started to read down through it to see if anyone answered, but all I came accross was fighting, and then I just stopped reading..... http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/frown.gif

This did not amuse me, People even said I just posted to bring up my count, but all I was doing was getting into the disscusion.

Oh, on that note, can someone please tell me if someone answered my question....

Inferior... I know exactly what you're saying about the *****ing, but it kind of dropped off towards the end. and anyway, I just skipped those posts and looked for the ones with real information...

did u mean your question about microwaves??
if you did, then I think it was discussed later in the thread, but I don't remember exactly what was said. i do know this though... microwaves can go faster than the speed of light in certain media. (light travels slower through water than in a vacuum). that's as specific as the answer can get based on your question.

AND....SYSOPT... you gave me the option of using my email for the topic and i accepted it. As of yet. you have not yet reopened the thread. please do so since you took the time to respond to my original post.
thanks
