I can send e-mail and can download newsgroups but it will not download incoming e-mail nor does the dialup connection window come up when going to outlook express. I do not receive any errors, have called the ISP (earthlink) to ensure all setting are correct, checked the knowledge base at MS, the search in this forum, and still can't figure out what would cause this. Again, can connect to the internet, go into OE, and then send mail, but OE will just flash when sending and receiving e-mail--won't download and no errors popup. Totally confused--too many errors; ready to send my friend (it's his PC) back to AOL. Running Win 98SE on a PB.

Try this...go to Outlook Express, Click on Tools, Accounts, and remove the e-mail account (make sure you have the proper settings/log-in/password first!) Then re-add the e-mail account. It sounds stupid I know, but it worked for me! Just another example of the fine high quality of product that comes out of 1 Microsoft Way, Redmond, Washington!

Thanks Randy48 but I finally think I figured out what I forget to do--checkmark the General tab "include this account when receiving mail or synchronizing"! It looks like it's working again but I could've swore this was checkmarked before when I was trouble-shooting. Regardless, I'll remember the "remove e-mail account" trick for future ref. It has to beat uninstalling and reinstalling as the last resort.
