Here's the breakdown:

Win95 - Dos 7.0
Win98 - Dos 7.1

Win2K is based on the WinNT kernel, so it doesn't have an underlying DOS layer. I haven;t played around with WinME enough to tell you what version it uses, as it regards DOS somewhat differently than Win9x. MS dropped real mode support form the WinME kernel, so DOS apps have very little support under this OS.

Under older version of DOS, you can type ver at the DOS prompt to find out what version your running.

I think it is version 7 with Win98, which is horrible. Half of the commands that used to work are now "bad command or filename".

I think Win2000 does not have DOS at all, it has something called the "command line", but DOS is gone.

The current iteration of Win2K is listed as this:

Version 5.00.2195

Win ME is DOS but strictly in protected mode, as such, I made a DOS ME system boot disk, which I did just for fun.
No longer is Himem.sys needed, actually, it's built into the command interpreter. Dos drivers still work with it, but half the Windows components that were required for DOS CDROM support or SCSI drive support anr not necessary.

I can't remember what version it listed, but I'll let you know later.
