i just got a new set of speakers. i purchased a 3-piece labtec set and my question is, when i enable 3d sound in my volume control, my subwoofer just completly stops hitting. the bass then comes from the sattalite speakers which are like 2 inchers! they cant heandle any bass at all. with 3d sound turned off though, my sub hits really good. the soundcard i have is a riptide combo. its got a soundcard and 56k modem combined on one card. it came with my hewlett-packard computer.ive got the latest drivers from the HP website and still no luck. so how can i enable 3d sound and still have my sub working?!
I don't know how to enable it but my guess is that the system is using your woofer as a center channel when you enable 3d. (might give you something to investigate.)
I'd have to first off think the plug's are crossed. Recheck the wiring.

well ive tried rewiring and there are only 3 cords, power, then a cord to the 2 sattalite speakers and then the one to the sub. so its not the wiring.........

Usually the 3d setting on computers and boom boxes with only 2 speaker outputs is messing with the phase of the audio output signal. There's some cancellation of bass unfortunately with most of these settings. It's the phase shift that gives sound that "wider" feeling and usually at the expense of bass. I never use those 3d or wide settings myself ...I like bass.
If you like spacious sound buy yourself a cheap surround sound amp and plug the output of your sound card into that.

open your volume control, click file, advanced properties, then click advanced under master volume....then check the 3d sound box and it should do it
