-------JUST A NOTICE TO TNT2 M64 VIDEO CARD USERS------
This is something that I found out after installing Detonator3 Video Driver on certain Nvidia TNT2 M64 chip based video cards.
Each time I would do a cold boot, Win2K wouldn't boot beyond the blue desktop screen and wouldn't load the Win2K desktop icons. But after doing a warm-boot, Win2K would load fine without any problems.
I installed Win2K 4 times, one time after the other to try to get this problem resolved. But I later found out that the problem wasn't the Win2K install! It turned out to be the Detonator3 Driver!!! It took me 4 fresh installs of Win2K until I found this out. I went to www.nvidia.com (http://www.nvidia.com) and downloaded Detonator 2 V.5.32 and there were no problems at all. The strange thing is that I had this same problem with the system at work even though it was a different brand of TNT2 card that had the same chip in it and was also using Detonator3 V.6.31 and the problem was solved after loading Detonator2.
I'm not saying that the Detonator3 will cause this problem on all TNT2 M64 Video cards, but that it does cause a problems on certain TNT2 M64 Cards.
As for my Geforce256 DDR card, it runs Detonator 3 without any problems.
My conclussion is that , if you are having the same problem as I mentioned above where you have to do warm-boot to get Win2K desktop icons loaded, the Detonator 3 driver may be the cause. Just try using Detonator 2 driver or the driver that came with your videcard.
