Recently my computer has started doing weird stuff when i try to load webpages. I use ZoneAlarm as a firewall, and as user of the program know it shows you what programs are accessing the net by making their little logo thingo in zonealarm flash, well when looking at zonealarm IE doesn't EVER access the net anymore, for some reason WE (Windows Explorer) has decided it wants to be my browser. It access the net instead of IE. This is not biggie as far as i am conserned but would be nice for it to be back to normal, i have tried re-installing IE 5.5 with no luck in resolving the issue. BUT also once this problem started also another problem started. When putting in a web address e.g. http://www.sysopt.com into the start/run box, instead of just loading that webpage in IE, both a IE and WE window will load, the IE window lays dormant with a blank page while the WE does the surfing. I have check association types etc... and everything links to IE not WE, so i have no idea whats causing it. Any help will be greatly apprietiated (and i can't spell).
Thanx

Do you have a macro running in one of these programs? Has Windows explorer ever malfunctioned before?

The Big 3

1. Have you ever formatted
2. Has this happened before
3. What have you done to fix it

Besides, I'm quite sure a good home for this topic is in technical support, but I'm not a moderator, http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/frown.gif YET!

Best,

Michael

Malfunctioned b4? = WE nothing unusual besides this only, explorer crashes on me fairly often cuz i constantly push this old PC to the limit and beyond!
ever formatted = yep, not since this begun tho, wanna leave it as a last resort (cut my life into pieces, this is my last resort, suffication, no breathin.... ahh sorry back to the post)
Happened b4 = Nup
done 2 fix = have tried re-installing IE, checked associations etc.... all with no luck

And for this being in tech support, good point but i was very tired at the time i posted this so please forgive me, just this once???

JayMan, you're in the correct forum. http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/wink.gif

Sorry I can't help as I haven't heard of this before, but I'm wondering if Windows Explorer may be executing some arbitrary program or code.

Have you run an updated virus and trojan scan?

Have you been playing with Browser Helper Objects, or a Web-enabled version of Windows Explorer? A BHO is a dynamic-link library (DLL) capable of attaching itself to any new instance of Internet Explorer and, under certain circumstances, also Windows Explorer. Such a module can get in touch with the browser through the container's site.

JayMan

I pasted an url in my run box and only IE opened up. I confirmed by checking if "file/offline" was available. I too run ZoneAlarm but the pro version. I have it(ZA Pro) in my start menu because it conflicts with NSW 2001 E-mail antivirus on start up.

I've disable Norton's Net detect.

WinMe os

sorry no insight into your problem.

Hmm , I wonder If I denied Win Explorer net access...ZAPro allowed it. Hmm
