The DVD-RAM is a 5.2 gb cd. Technically it's not a cd but for simplicities sake, we'll call it one. I had wanted to get one, but had been told by another member that since they are 1st generation, they are bound to have problems, etc.

Yeah that's true. I've always wondered about that DVD-RAM. I was close to getting one but I didn't know what it was. I think that this Orb is better the zip drives. I wouldn't mind having one. http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/smile.gif Seems pretty good.

It's funny but one orb disk is 2x bigger than my hard drive on my pentium 133

Isn't it amazing how technology changes? Hard drives used to be 500mb and less. A $1 CD-R could fit more info than some of those hard drives.

I don't like the zips that much. It's all hype. There is nothing special about them at all. An internal Orb drive costs about $200. An internal Zippy costs about $170. Using the Orb you get almost 9x the amount of storage space.

Check out what overclockers.com had to say about the orb:

If you compare the quality of the external Zip vs. Orb, Zip drives are much more rugged. I have heard horror stories about the Orb's flimsy construction and propensity to break. Yes indeed the cartridges store much more and cost less per MB.

I don't know how Iomega gets away with the price for Zip disks. Are they really that expensive to make?
