I'm going to be setting up a machine for my cousin, who has no computing knowledge, and I was thinking about getting him a couple of books on Win2k (or maybe Win ME, if I decide to install it) and office 2000.

He's at university, and will be using the machine for creating reports, etc, so I suppose I'm looking for books that give a bit of handholding, and show how to complete basic to moderate tasks.

As I'm a bit of a techie, I'm concerned that I don't go off and get books that are too detailed or geeky.

What do you guys recommend? I'd be very interested in hearing from members that are fairly new to computing, and will have gone through the sorts of things that my cousin will probably go through.

TIA,

Cranberry

Hi cranberry http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/smile.gif

Windows 2000 Resource Kit would be the 'bible' for W2K. Resource Kit books are tailored for the specific version; i.e., Professional, Advanced Server, etc.

Look for it at Amazon.com to read about it and then check around for the best price http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/smile.gif

I agree, I've got both Resource kits for 2000, and they are excellent. However, for my cousin, I'm looking for some books that will give some basic handholding and explain how to use the machine and do basic wordprocessing, etc. This will be my cousins first computer - I think that the resource kits might be a bit much ;-)

There has got to be a Windows 2000 for dummies... and if there is, I got to get it too!!! (I'm not calling you or anyone a dummy, were just intellectually challenged!) Robert E.
