I am putting Linux Mandrake 7.1 on my laptop and I wanted to get some suggestions on how I should size my 4 partitions? -->

My hard drive is 3gb.

/ -> ???mb
/usr/ -> ????mb
/home/ -> ????mb
/swap/ -> ???mb

Call me a lazy home Linux user - but I just throw the whole thing on one large partition.

I am a Linux Newbie, so I searched all over the web looking for this same information. When I installed Redhat Linux 6.2 for the 10th time, I let it set it's own partition size. It will make the partitions it needs such as /,/usr,/swap. If you still want to manually set your partitions, try this link: http://home.earthlink.net/~michaelburns/install.html for advise.
The following quote comes from this site:
"Since this is your first time make /boot 20MB, / (or root) 600MB and /usr/local say 250MB, lastly make /home at least 150mb (remember if you are the only user you do not need to this, although it is generally considered a good idea). When you learn more you can then do a reinstall and do whatever you want but for now this will work."
I reloaded Linux several times until I was comfortable with the install. Good luck.
