I would like to make it clear, that this is not going to be used in any illegal way whatsoever. My cd's are badly scratched up from not taking very good care of them, and I need to replace them A.S.A.P. (It took me over an hour to install Age of Empires due to the scratches, and numerous crashes)
I have then newest full edition of Nero, and a Phillips 4/4/24 Cd-RW, and I am trying to back up my current collection of computer games, that require you to have the cd in, when playing. My cd's are scratched, and when I have to have them in, I get very, very chuggy performance. When I tried to back them up, I would get messages like "the disc is not inserted" blah blah blah. Any help would be appreciated.

Rather than trying to copy from CD to CD, you might want to make a disk image and verify the image with the source CDROM before attempting to copy the CD. Padus DiskJuggler has an option to verify image before writing to the blank CD, which should save you from making a coaster out of your blank CD. As for Adaptec Easy CD Creator "Copy CD", there is an option to "Test Copy" in the Advanced Tab of "Copy CD".

A quick fix would be a one time full install of the game, and go to 3w.gamecopyworld.com and download the cd-check remover. Then you could play the games without the cd, and make the backup CDR at your leisure.

Get a bottle of Silvo or other abrasive cleaning liquid (the stuff you use for cleaning brass , teapots n' stuff) and rub the non-label side of the cd with a quality lens cleaning cloth soaked in the liquid - If the scratches are not to bad you can make the cd good as new. Nero is my preferred copier due to the fact that it copies nearly anything.

Toothe paste does a fine job of filling in the smaller scratches, so long as they're not the size of the grand canyon, then it should work just fine. I used to do this with all my music cd's, it lasts a decent while too so long as you don't get them wet.
